Selling templates

Selling templates Pro

Open a map, click Sell in the editor header, toggle List as a paid template, and set a one-time price. Your listing then shows in the gallery with a Paid badge and price tag.

Only the workspace owner can sell

Listing a map for sale is an owner-only action. See Roles & permissions for what Admins and Editors can do. They can still share maps publicly for free - they just cannot set a price.

Pro lets you list - Stripe verification lets you sell

A paid Pro plan unlocks paid-template listing, but buyers cannot purchase until you have set up payouts and passed Stripe's identity check (KYC). These are two separate gates: your Canopy plan and your Stripe payout account. The 7-day free trial does not include selling - listing paid templates unlocks once your trial converts to a paid plan (everything else in Pro works during the trial).

Setting up payouts

Go to Dashboard → Sales → Set up payouts. Canopy creates a Stripe Connect Express account and sends you to Stripe's hosted onboarding - enter your identity and bank details. You can onboard as an individual; a registered company is not required.

Once Stripe clears the KYC check, Sales shows Payouts active and your templates become buyable. Your payout details and buyers' card details stay with Stripe; they never touch Canopy's servers.

Supported countries

Receiving payouts requires a Stripe Connect account, which Stripe only offers in its supported countries. If you're based somewhere Stripe Connect isn't available, you won't be able to finish onboarding, so you can't sell paid templates (you can still publish free public templates). Stripe decides eligibility during onboarding and will tell you exactly what it needs - Canopy doesn't add any country restrictions of its own.

Buyers can be anywhere

Buyers don't need a Stripe account and can purchase from almost any country - Stripe accepts international cards and handles currency conversion. The only blocks are Stripe's own compliance ones (e.g. sanctioned regions), which it applies automatically at checkout. The country limit is on sellers receiving payouts, not on buyers paying.

Disconnecting payouts

From Account settings → Seller payouts you can Disconnect payout account. This pauses your for-sale templates (they stay listed but can't be bought) and doesn't touch your Stripe account - the Express account stays open at express.stripe.com with any pending balance, which you can still withdraw there.

Reconnecting creates a new account

Stripe doesn't reattach a disconnected account: setting up payouts again creates a brand-new connected account and you'll redo KYC. Your old account and its balance stay separate at express.stripe.com. So only disconnect if you're switching accounts or stepping away from selling - not as a temporary pause.

Seller fees

Example - $49 template sale

Sale price$49.00
Platform fee (10% + $0.50)−$5.40
You receive$43.60

No other deductions - Canopy absorbs Stripe's payout and account fees.

  • Prices are one-time in USD, from $1 to $199. Set $0 to keep a template free.
  • Canopy charges 10% + $0.50 per sale. The rest is paid to you via Stripe Connect on Stripe's normal payout schedule, with no other fees deducted from your earnings - Canopy absorbs Stripe's payout and account fees.
  • You are responsible for taxes on your earnings.

Refunds

Sales are final - buyers are not entitled to a refund, and there is no self-service refund. Issuing one is entirely at your discretion (for example, to resolve a dispute): contact us at hello@8starlabs.com to arrange it. If a refund is issued, the buyer is refunded in full and immediately loses access to the template, and the refunded amount - including Canopy's platform fee - is reversed from your payout, so the cost is borne entirely by you. Refunds are final and can't be undone.
