Seller lifecycle
Paid templates stay connected to the seller's source map through live licenses. That keeps buyer entitlements durable while letting sellers improve their work over time - and gives buyers a permanent safety net through the snapshot captured at purchase.
Template states
Live
Listed in gallery · buyable
Clone original and Clone latest both work for all buyers.
Archived
Seller deleted the map
Removed from gallery. Clone latest blocked. Clone original still works from the snapshot.
Source removed
Seller deleted their workspace
Source map gone. Clone latest hidden. Clone original still works from the snapshot.
Paused
Seller downgraded to Free
Hidden from gallery, no new purchases. Existing licenses are unaffected.
Updates reach buyers automatically
Buying a template does not hand over a static copy. It grants a live entitlement to the seller's source map. When the seller improves the template, buyers can clone the latest version on demand and get those improvements immediately via Clone latest.
Snapshot at purchase
At the moment a buyer pays, Canopy captures a frozen copy of the map's nodes and edges and saves it permanently to the entitlement. This snapshot is the buyer's Clone original baseline - it never changes, even if the seller heavily rewrites the template or deletes their workspace afterward.
Clone original
Clones the frozen snapshot captured at the moment you purchased. Never changes - always available.
source: snapshot at purchase
available: always
Clone latest
Clones the seller's current live map, including every improvement made since your purchase.
source: seller's live map
available: while source is live
Deleting a sold template
If a seller deletes a template that has at least one buyer, Canopy archives it rather than erasing it:
- Removed from the gallery immediately - no new purchases.
- Clone latest is blocked for all existing buyers.
- The entitlement and its snapshot survive untouched.
- Buyers see an Archived badge in their Library.
- Clone original still works - buyers can always clone the frozen snapshot.
A template with no buyers is hard-deleted (cascade removes nodes and edges).
Seller downgrades to Free
When a Pro seller downgrades, all their listings are paused - hidden from the gallery, buy button removed. No new purchases are possible until the workspace re-upgrades to Pro. Existing buyers are entirely unaffected - entitlements, snapshots, Clone original, and Clone latest all continue to work as before.
The seller can also flip a paused listing to free (price = $0) to keep it cloneable by anyone without re-upgrading.
