Is there really a free plan?

Yes. The Free plan is free forever - no credit card. It's enough to map a small system end-to-end and export it.

Up to 50 maps (150 nodes each), unlimited workspace members (each a paid seat), Figma and Notion export, the MCP server, and the ability to sell maps as paid templates in the marketplace. Private share links and Canopy AI are coming soon for Pro. $10/seat/mo, or about $8 billed yearly.

How does billing work - what's a seat?

Canopy is billed per workspace, by seat. Only the roles that can change something cost money: Owner, Admins and Editors each take a paid seat. Viewers are free and unlimited on every plan, including Free - so you can invite read-only teammates and clients at no cost. Pro is $10/seat/mo (about $8 billed yearly).

Is there a free trial, and what happens when it ends?

Yes - 7 days of Pro, once per person, with a card up front. When it ends the card is charged and you continue on Pro; if that first charge fails the workspace simply drops to Free (there is no grace period for a charge that never cleared). A promo code works differently: it grants a longer trial with NO card, and when that one ends the subscription just ends and the workspace returns to Free. Either way nothing is deleted - maps over the Free limits go read-only until you re-upgrade or trim them.

How do promo codes work?

Redeem a campaign code from Plans & billing inside the app - that box is the only place a code works, since a Canopy code carries its value as free trial time rather than as a discount. It starts a cardless Pro trial for whatever length the code grants, and can also extend a 7-day trial you are already on (a code can only lengthen a trial, never shorten it). One code per trial: you cannot stack a second code on a trial that already came from one. Selling paid templates stays locked during any trial, because that needs an active paid plan.

How many workspaces can I have?

Two free workspaces per account. To create more, upgrade a free workspace to Pro - that frees a slot. Each workspace is its own team and its own subscription, so paid workspaces are unlimited.

Can I switch plans, and what happens if I downgrade or cancel?

Accepted Answer

Upgrade any time (prorated to the day). Cancel from the billing portal and you keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for, then drop to Free - no refund, but no lost time either. Nothing is ever deleted: your maps and workspaces always stay. A downgraded workspace drops to Free limits, and anything over them (maps beyond the first 2, a map with more than 25 nodes, or a third free workspace) becomes read-only until you trim it, re-upgrade, or pick which free workspaces stay active.

How do I manage billing, invoices, and my payment method?

Everything lives in the Stripe billing portal, opened from Settings - Plans & billing (Owner only). Update your card, download invoices and receipts, change seats, switch monthly/yearly, or cancel there. Template marketplace purchases show in-app under Plans & billing.

What happens to my account and data if I delete it?

Accepted Answer

Account deletion is immediate and permanent - there's no grace period or recovery. Cancel or transfer any paid workspace first. If you're only stepping away, you can just downgrade to Free instead; your data is always preserved.
