Email notifications
Canopy emails you about things that matter: billing, your template sales and purchases, workspace changes, and the occasional product update. You control which of these you receive from Account settings → Email notifications.
Emails we send
Grouped by the category you can toggle:
Billing & plan
- Payment failed - a charge on your workspace's card didn't go through; you have a 7-day grace window to update it before the workspace drops to Free.
- Workspace downgraded to Free - sent when a subscription is cancelled or the grace window lapses. Your data is preserved; over-limit maps and extra members become read-only / lose access until you re-upgrade.
Template sales (sellers)
- You made a sale - someone bought one of your paid templates.
- A sale was refunded - a buyer was refunded; the amount (including Canopy's platform fee) is reversed from your payout and the buyer's license is revoked.
- A buyer opened a dispute - a chargeback was filed; the buyer's access is paused while it's open. Contest it in your Stripe dashboard.
Your purchases (buyers)
- Your purchase was refunded - a template you bought was refunded (or a dispute resolved). Your access to it is removed.
Workspace & members
- You've been invited to a workspace, ownership transferred, and related membership changes.
Product updates
- Occasional, low-volume news about new Canopy features.
Managing your preferences
Go to Account settings → Email notifications, toggle any category on or off, then choose Save changes. Preferences apply to every workspace you belong to (email preferences are tied to your account, not a single workspace).
Preferences are per person. If you own several workspaces, turning off "Billing & plan" silences billing emails for all of them.
Always-on emails
A few emails are essential and are always sent, regardless of your preferences:
- Security & sign-in - magic links, password resets, email-change confirmations.
- Account closure & dormancy - closure confirmations, the pre-deletion warning, and dormant-account notices.
- Verification decisions - the outcome of a workspace verification request.
These can't be turned off because missing them could cost you access to your account or data.
