Spend tracking
Canopy is spend-aware. Attach a monthly cost to any node and it rolls up across groups and the whole system - so your architecture map doubles as a cost map.

$11.3k/mo
Attaching cost
Select a node, open the inspector, and set its Monthly cost. Costs slide into the map immediately and the system total updates live. You can enter a flat figure or connect a billing source to keep it current.
Roll-ups
Spend aggregates two ways:
- By group - frontend, backend, AI, platform. See Groups for how to assign nodes to groups.
- By system - a single number for the whole map (e.g.
$12.4k/mo).
The group view sorts domains by cost, so your most expensive area is always obvious.
Display currency
Every workspace shows spend in a single currency, set under Workspace settings → Spend currency. Canopy supports 10 major currencies - see Supported currencies for the full list.
This is purely about how your tracked spend is displayed and is separate from how Canopy itself is billed - for plans and seats, see Subscriptions & seats.
Budgets
Set a monthly budget per group or for the whole system. When projected spend crosses a threshold, Canopy flags it on the dashboard and (optionally) posts to Slack.

Optimization tips
Tag every node on import
Set a monthly cost immediately when you add a service - even a rough estimate. A map with 90% coverage is far more useful than a perfect model of three nodes.
Use groups to own a budget
Assign every node to a group (Frontend, Backend, AI, Platform). Group totals become the source of truth for domain cost reviews - one number per team.
Set a budget threshold
A budget alert at 80% of your monthly cap catches cost creep before the invoice. Pair it with a Slack webhook so the on-call rotation sees it immediately.
